20something

sebastian | December 23, 2009 | 9:35 pm

here’s to being 20…

—-

… of course… the race to the midnight is funnest… where the cell wld vibrate at every single text received.

but no. it didn’t.

i removed my birthday off my facebook profile.

instead only a couple (… and i do mean 2) text me…

but it was sweet one of them had “count down timer” that came with every reply.

if you are reading this (i doubt) thank you. every text made me smile =]

—-

i always predicted 20 wld be a year of depression.

it is true.

… as it turns out.
(read on)

—

the morning started relatively emo.

just negative comments from people… including some from my ‘best friend’

(my ‘best friend’ didn’t mentioned anything abt my b day… guess he forgot abt it)

bitch.

—-

the day didn’t get any better… i was denied entry at my gym… some computer bug apparently…

they noticed it was my birthday… but didn’t wish me anything.

they had cake at the counter. they didn’t offer it to me either.

bleh.

—-

the workout was equally bad.

my max weights for a 12 rep set was 35% lighter… zzz

and the gym took away the 2.5kg and 1.25kg weight plates… boooooo! >.<

the only good thing was… that emo emo made me ran faster on the treadmill.. i did a new record 08:57 for my 2.4… two seconds faster then my previous record (months months ago).

oh and i lost 3 kg… severals months of mass and strength gaining efforts.

gone.

—-

after gym i met some friends for dinner.

at a ‘well queued’ restaurant at mandrain gallery.

it was way over rated… the broth is ladened with flavour enhancers.

sucks.

—-

zzz… emo emo… will it continue for the rest of my “age/20″?

emo.

—-

sweet dreams

sebastian | November 18, 2009 | 10:47 pm

… it has been a while since i cam whore

but it’s a nice thing to do… to end my first ’social rest day*’ in quite a while

did quite a bit… in a down tempo pace…

woke up late… ran around the estate…  had a nice breakfast… took the longer but more scenic route to orchard… got a message… my hair cut… tasty-yummy lunch… learn a few dance moves for bad romance… got lost in time- in a bookstore… baked cookies when i got back…

*social rest day: a day celebrated by sebastian with a simple ‘me’ time. no social interaction. just him and probably starbucks.

SABBY OUT!
… was listening to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance (and i still think it is an awful song)

i love museums

sebastian | October 4, 2009 | 1:19 pm

i was invited to a mid autumn celebration @ Hua Song Museum.. thanks to omy.sg and national heritage board =D

and it was super fun!

Hua Song Museum is within Haw Par Villa… and let me tell u a secret… i didn’t even know Haw Par VIlla was operational until Friday night…

like my good friend marco (who went to the celebration with me)…  we are both decedents from china… but our great grand parents decided to make this archipelago our new home…

[and from this museum i also learnt y... apparently.. if either of our great grand parents returned to the 'closed door' china they risk being beheaded]

the only difference is that marco’s ancestors decided to stay in indonesia while mine decided singapore was a cooler and more a happening place… wahhahah ;)

the celebration was really cooooool…. nhb organized like food and activities for all of us… which was really nice of them…

though on regular nights it would most probably be less that… but the museum would still be a decent place to go..

WHY?!

cos’ the museum is not those  ’look @ artifacts’ kinda… but rather have this simulator approach where the museum is built to make u feel or at least interact with the past… this i think is unique  to Singapore’s museum (think in the lines of our national museum’s living gallery)… or it could be the government is not budgeting enough money to buy the artifacts

and that’s what i absolutely love about singapore’s museum…
they try really hard to make it a living place and you can interact with the stories & personality of the gallery’s.. and not just stay a distance and faint appreciation of something we do not feel the connection for

Here are ’some’ pics & vid that were taken… =D

LIKE me MAKING mooncakes! =D

or calligraphy fun!

and YES! even lantern making! =DD

making a ‘fly thru’ of a building model

cam whoring within the museum

___

see! haha… told u visiting the museum is uber fun! haha =D

it’s not just observing aged artifacts… but having fun interacting and learning with what’s the origins of  what’s living

and that was just one of the smaller museums in singapore! woooT!

[adv] Little Notes

sebastian | September 14, 2009 | 9:48 pm

i recently attending the gala premier of

(thanks to omy.sg)

Royton’s new short film:

Little Note.

quite unfortunately it would not be showing on the big screen…

it is going straight to DVD

then again… it’s only 15 mins… so it’s hard to sell a 10 bucks movie ticket for 15 mins.

on DVD on the other hand… it proved more promising for 10 bucks…. as u get to watch it over and over again… not that i am saying u shld to make ur 10 bucks worth it… but rather u shld to re-read… re-interprete every emotionally packed minute of the movie…

… i for one was lucky to watch it on Lido’s big screen… but i enjoyed the DVD back home again… where it evoked more questions and quires about the plot themes…

so if i think the DVD was good as a second watch… after watching it on the big screen… i am sure you would find the DVD pleasant tooo…

and of course being a dvd… u get all those extras… behind the scene… post card…

[adv] a Story of the Image

sebastian | August 19, 2009 | 12:16 am

a Story of the Image

Old & New Masters From Antwerp

I have to admit i am afraid to write this entry, for failing to do the justice to this expansive exhibition at National Museum.

A story of the Image is really a huge exhibit covering in an excess of a hundred pieces of art borrowed from three of Antwerp’s key museums.

… to be honest, before receiving the invite from omy.sg | thanks omy.sg btw ;) | i never heard of Antwerp- but a quick wiki resolved that.
it is a city in Belgium and it is where the start of the art industry’s ‘globalisation’.

The exhibit is arranged in such a way that the “Old & New” works sit in contrast with each other, giving visitors a quick way to vis-a-vis how these masters tell their concepts.
… in short, the exhibit makes it easy to evoke thought in the appreciation of the old and new without even realising it.

making critical perspective between the old & new a piece of cake.

to add icing on the cake, National Museum made it even easier with their activity book of the exhibit.
… but i would suggest u spend like 10 mins skimming the book before diving in to the exhibits.

omy.sg and national heritage board was really nice to arrange a guided walk thru of the the exhibits and i learnt a several things from the exhibit…

… like how the art industry was so commercialised like today’s fashion industry. many of the paintings were merely ‘touched up’ or conceptualised by the artist who signed it… a little like how Giorgio Armani didn’t exactly design pieces from his mass marketed Armani Exchange or how Britney Spears is not technically responsible for the formulation of her perfumes (she just have to say ’she likes it’ when it is sampled for her).

yeaaaaa… to be honest that reduce a little my opinion of peter paul rubens’ work…. wahahhaha

oh yes… and also included in the exhibit are like how these artist actually have like ad campaigns for the works they produce….
… but no they didn’t have adobe photoshop or illustrator, instead they used ‘plate copying’ (go to the exhibit to find out more!)

since u have both old and new works to observe, this exhibit will appeal to both- those who rate art from how intricate the painter’s skill and those who rate art by observing how resourceful the artist is with projecting his conceptions.

a theme i found most prominent in the works are the issues of ‘re-sensitisation of bare basics’ be in dwelling in to our memory in search of what we consider important or re-discovering the things we have around us.

to exemplify… when was the last time u observe how perfectly round our moon is or the echos of our air conditioning unit.

i think re-sensitisation is great thing that anyone would take away from the exhibit… for u start to ’smell the roses’ and have greater appreciation for the things around us…. making 2 steps forward one step back a good thing in this fast paced, results orientated culture we have.

oh YES and there are a few installations (like the installation, below) that allow u interact and become part of the the works!!

… but this (below) is still my personal favourite piece of the exhibit!

but like all things art… it is up to the YOU to interpret how you feel when u see those awesome installation and works…

for i know some of my friends would just be excited to camwhore with the installations…
… but that too is an interaction with the pieces ;)

and why should u spent money to camwhore interact with the pieces?!?!

cos’ you don’t!

the exhibit is

FREE!

for all students =]

*and 4 bucks for NSF and 8 for adults.

… now that is just drop dead awesome righttttt? haha =D

and the exhibit to me is THAT good… i am returning next weekend ;)

till i can get my satisfaction.

sebastian | August 13, 2009 | 10:22 pm

i am in my mum’s room.

her hospital room. blogging.

she just completed her surgery.

the surgery was good, no complications- as of now.

for that, i am happy.

i guess i owe the surgeon a thank you- though he’s charging.

i am glad the room proved to be very comfortable for my mum to recover.
in fact i think it is nicer then my own room… zzz

thank god for insurance.

on a irrelevant note, her ‘neighbour’ in the hospital is the head of a royal family from a neighbouring country.
strange things u learn over hot chocolate at the ward’s lounge.

my mum comments that she in great discomfort.

i watch my dad, with the help from the team of ’super’ nurse, looked after her. so interesting.

i thought of that over ron’s ranting on the phone about yearning.

i saw that reflected in my dad, so readily to help my mum and to try his best to appease her.

perhaps that reflects the shadow of having a partner in life works.

suddenly. i won’t mind having a long term partner, a thought that frightens me formerly.

though my flamboyant demeanour say otherwise, i always have this desire to look after someone and not vice versa (blaming it on primitive male instincts)- but the long term commitment scares me.

after seeing what my dad did for my mum. perhaps long term commitment isn’t half as bad as feared.

now, i think it is pretty darn sweet, and it invoked in me the desire to ‘yearn’ for someone- for a life time =]

hmm. shameful me, i manage to write something about my mum to some thing about me. like always- i’m self centred. =/

i love my mum.

First Bad Habit

sebastian | August 10, 2009 | 10:47 pm

i was wet and dancing to womanizer

… no i wasn’t in the gym shower
nor did i make a youtube video only to scare myself 2 mths later

yes yes…
… u saw sebastian “there”

~not his evil twin bother. haaa~

;)

i was there on visitor pass
… wahaha… yupyup… not a resident floorfiller… just a tourist
(excuses for breaking the ‘quits the night club’ fb status)

the late night session was an amusing experience…

the first hour or so.. i spent pondering
…curious how did a 18 yr old Sebastian enter this kinda place and actually have fun

but after we hit the dance floor…
it was a whole deja vu
… the beat pumping thru my blood! wahaha

and believe me the deja vu wasn’t just abt the dancing…
it was about the music too…
u wld think that a few months would give a fresh new playlist and remixes
but NOOOO~ ahhaha… just a couple of new songs to the same-o same-o… haha

but my favourite bit was the liquid nitrogen (or at least, that is what i think it is) bit! omggg so niceee……..

and to the pple i was surprised to meet there:
‘hello! now i know. ;) haha’

this night club session would last me another few months or so*
but visits to the butter factory might be another thing all together…. HAHA!
